Project #5 Reflection

I learned that I do not like filming my own face and that I do not like hearing my own voice. Therefore, I chose to do a video that didn't have one of those, however, it still had my face in it. I think it is easier to video a whole shot and then edit it later to the way that I want it. So if I wanted things to go faster during editing, I could edit extra material out, but if I wanted to slow things down I  wouldn't have a smooth transition than if I just film it all together. I really didn't learn anything new about final cut pro during this project, since it was relatively short and not that complicated to edit. Hopefully I got my message across and I tried to use some quotes to support the message.

Project #7 Reflection

I think the one thing I learned wast that it is hard to keep everyone focused in order to get the shots filmed. I noticed that a lot of people were laughing and so it took a lot longer than it had to to film the whole video. And since everyone was laughing, it was hard to get a shot that didn't have laughter in it. However, I was able to figure out how to cut out the sound in a shot and still kind of make it look normal. Seeing as how the laughter would come right after the person was done talking it was hard to cut around the shot. I also figured out that I can put a transition in the middle of the shot, which was good. I had a lot of fun shooting these videos, probably the most fun I've had, so I guess if people are laughing it should should be people that I like so that I don't get annoyed.

Project #6 Reflection

I learned that it easier to shoot a video that already has a script all done and all you have to do is copy what they are doing. However, that does not mean that it goes by any faster. I also learned that I need to keep the other people in the video who are not in the shot quiet because it is really hard to edit around someones laugh. Also I should look at the footage while we are filming because if something does not work I need to fix it right away so that I am not putting I something that looks bad. It is also hard to keep everyone focused and keep a straight face. I also learned more about filming seeing as how it was my first real time behind a camera and shooting other people. I really liked having the experience of filming instead of being in front of the camera. I liked being able to see things from a different point of view. I really enjoyed filming more than acting.

Project #6 Own Idea

For my first optional video I will do another commercial.

Commercial: Starbursts
Actors: Sarah DeLuca, Halie Goldwire, and other person
costumes: everyday clothes and one pilgrim outfit
script: it will be taken from the commercial
Props: suitcase and starbursts
Shots: wide shots

I figured since it was a choice to do whatever, I should do something that won't stress me out too much since it's coming down to the end of the year. I also like filming and editing humorous footage.

Project #5 Something I believe in or I am passionate about

subject: following your dreams
actors:  Sarah
Set:  white wall
Props: note cards
Length: 60 - 90 sec
Costumes: black clothes
Shots: waist up or from my bust up

I will do a social commentary about how people should follow their dreams. No matter what they want to do. If they want to do art for alining, singing, dancing, theatre, or anything, they should do it because it is there life and in the end they will have to live it. I will also hold up note cards saying what I want to say. I will not be talking in the video.

Project #3 six shot story reflection

I think that out of all the projects this one was the fastest to finish and the easiest. I liked how it didn't take that long and that I was able to get all the footage done quickly. I learned that a story doesn't have o be that long in order to make sense or that in order to get a message across. I learned that in final cut pro that instead of cutting everything that I don't want I can select the clip and extend and shorten it if I want that way the footage is not lost. This works better with music I think. But when I cut the music I can extend it so that nothing is lost and it still makes sense. I learned different angles and different ways to film footage. However I could still use some different angles. It was some what difficult to film by myself only because since I was in it I could not film it so I had to rely on the tripod to get all the footage which can be difficult because I can not see it until the end of the shot. It takes longer I feel like.

Project #4 PSA reflection

By doing my PSA I learned more bout the tripod and about filming by myself. I think I got a better understanding of how to film and how I want the shot to look. The one thing I wish I had done was get more footage of different people but I think how it is right now is pretty good. I really liked how it turned out but in the future I think I could still do more with it. I liked how fun and carefree it looked and how it was mixed up shots of different people and not really using a really long shot so that it was little images of people together. I also like the song and I learned how to cut the music so that it will work with the PSA. However, I should not cut the music. However, I should not have cut the music before I was done editing the video because I had to keep readjusting the music to fit the video which was difficult. It would have been good to get a more varying of age groups but seeing as how I was picking people that were  that were free getting older people was harder.

Project #2 Commercial Reflection

I learned how to control the camera better and I also figured out that it is easier to do longer takes than trying to piece together multiple little shots. I also figured out that I don't have to hole the camera all the time in order to film. I can set it somewhere so that we can film the whole entire scene. Something that I discovered is that each scene I film I should take more than one shot just incase. Also making sure the angle of the camera is really important and that having the appropriate angle is handy when putting it all together so that I can have more than one angle. I could also experiment with different angles and camera shots. I think that is what I need to improve on, making it look more interesting.

Project # 1 The stalker reflection

  • Everything was new to me during this project. I never really used a camera before and I never edited a video before. I never knew that it was rather easy to edit the video and to add things to it. I still have a lot to learn but I did learn a lot from the first project. I also learned that while filming we need to get all the takes we need before we begin editing.
  • I knew how to record. That was it.
  • I was one of the actors and I also gave feedback on the video.
  • Using longer takes instead of shorter recordings. It is easier to chop up a big recording than to try and fit a bunch of little recordings together.
  • I'm a rather forgetful person and I tend to get confused easily. Going slow on examples and showing it more than once can help me and others.

Project #1The stalker

Group Names: Christina Canino, Halie Goldwire, Sarah DeLuca

Option: Number 4

Music: suspenseful music, or natural sounds
Lighting: Natural light

Props: We will need a book for the girl to read and we will need something for her to sit on. Perhaps a chair or a bench.
Costumes: School uniforms

Scenes: In order to film the video we will need a room with computers. we will also need either an outdoor setting or an open area (depending on what's available). The girl will run into a scene with a lot of doors so we would probably film somewhere like a hallway.

Shots: We may use some extreme wide shots or very wide shot in order to set the scene, however, we will probably use medium close up, over the shoulder shot, and some cutaways to get the feeling of the scene. Some shots making the angle of the shot the actors perspective.
Ending: The girl reading the book gets closer and closer to the main actor, but right when the girl reading the book opens her mouth to speak, the main actor wakes up in the computer lab. Or the main girl wakes up like in the first scenario but instead of being in the computer lab she is somewhere else and the girl reading the book is right next to her giving her an odd look.

Actors: The main girl will be Sarah and the one following her will be either Christina or Halie and Molly will be the principal.
